The Lessons Learned from 500M Views

ft. MrRoflWaffles

Hey , thanks for opening up!

I promise you won’t be disappointed 😆

When I was at Game Developer Conference (GDC) in March, I met up with MrRoflWaffles who has 2M+ subscribers and over 500M+ views! 🤯

I’ve known Milo the last 6 years and I love jamming with him on all things content and the business of content. He was one of the fastest growing channels in the UK and part of the Google Accelerator Program.

Today I want to give you a peek into some of what we talk about, and if you like it… (there’s an invite for more juicy insights at the end of this email)

Not only has Milo amassed 500M+ views, he also has spun up brand new channels with me and grown them to millions of views within a few weeks!

He’s also uniquely gifted when it comes to talking about content due to a large portion of his gaming content being education based (e.g. guides).

Milo’s Lessons from 500M Views

It’s important to note that these are LONG FORM views. It’s not to say that short-form views don’t matter but it’s much more challenging to get 500M long-form views vs. short-form views.

He does many things well and is a real student of YouTube, but there’s a few key areas that I believe set Milo apart from anyone else.

🦚 Confident When Recording

Now, this sounds kind of obvious with his success but what is less obvious is how much work he as put into being better at this. He meticulously watches his own content and identifies where he could improve for next time. He also seeks out advice from his peers on how he could elevate his delivery.

To level up even more, he attended improv classes and started rehearsing for gigs in theatres. This level of effort is one of the factors that led to him breaking out.

🧠 Always Being a Student

If you’re lucky to get to know Milo, you’ll learn that he is a voracious learner (almost to his own detriment 🤣 ). He loves going deep into new subjects and always finds a way to take what he’s learning and applying it back to content creation.

Recently, he read through Sun Tzu’s Art of War and found many analogies to his own content creation journey. He dove deep into the world of online marketing, learning from people like Jeff Walker, Russel Brunson & Alex Hormozi.

⭐️ Knowing What Is Important To Him

As creators, we’re always on the grind and chasing that 1 of 10. Even when he’s 15 years into the journey, Milo still loves a 1 of 10 but he doesn’t let the analytics impact how he shows up for his content.

He realizes there are many ways to measure success and he’d much rather evaluate the success of his business on how profitable it is vs. how many views it’s getting. This is a refreshing perspective as sometimes creators fall into the trap of scaling for the sake of scaling.

While we were At GDC, we both decided that Milo should come onto the podcast…

…not only as a Guest, but also as a co-host! 🤩 (I’m so excited for this!!)

You can check out the full episode of Milo on the podcast where he expands on the points above and other lessons he’s learned growing to 500M+ long-form views.

I really enjoyed bringing Milo onto the show and feel like you’re gonna love the episode 😊

(p.s. one small ask: If you enjoy the podcast, please drop us a review as it helps us grow the pod, improve the production quality, and get more incredible guests ❤️)
